12-Year-Old Boy Succumbs to Dengue Fever in Valayambattu Village

In a tragic incident, a 12-year-old boy named R. Gopinath from Valayambattu village near Vaniyambadi town lost his life to dengue fever. This unfortunate incident has prompted the district administration to take immediate preventive measures to combat the spread of the disease. The authorities have initiated fogging operations and are actively clearing stagnant water from abandoned spots in the affected area. These efforts aim to curb the breeding of mosquitoes, which are responsible for transmitting the dengue virus. The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.

Gopinath, a bright class 8 student at a private school in Vaniyambadi town, was admitted to the Government Taluk Hospital on January 2 after experiencing high fever. Despite receiving medical treatment, his condition worsened, leading to vomiting and fatigue. Consequently, Gopinath was transferred to the Government Medical College Hospital in Krishnagiri on January 4. As his health continued to deteriorate, his concerned parents decided to shift him to a private hospital in Bengaluru. Tragically, Gopinath passed away around 10.45 p.m. on January 8.

Following the post-mortem examination, the boy’s body was handed over to his grieving parents. Health officials have highlighted that Tirupattur district witnesses an average of 10-15 dengue cases reported each month, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to combat the disease.

T.R. Senthil, Deputy Director of Health Services (DDHS) in Tirupatur, stated, “We have thoroughly disinfected the entire affected area, Anna Nagar in Valayambattu village, after receiving the report of the boy’s admission to Krishnagiri hospital. All government hospitals in the district are equipped with a minimum of 20 beds each to handle dengue cases effectively,” as reported by The Hindu.
