Violence shook the West Bank on Sunday, as a series of tragic events unfolded, leaving multiple casualties. The initial incident claimed the life of Sgt. Shai Germai, a 19-year-old officer who fell victim to a terrorist road-side explosive during anti-terrorism operations in the city of Jenin, according to Israel Police. The explosion also resulted in injuries to three others. In response, the Israel Defense Forces swiftly deployed a military helicopter to the area and retaliated against Palestinians who were throwing explosives at Israelis. The strike resulted in the death of seven men, as reported by the Palestinian Health Ministry. During the subsequent funeral procession in Jenin, the bodies of four of the deceased were draped in the flag of Hamas, the militant group that has been in conflict with Israel since October 7.

In a separate incident later in the day, Amar Mansour, a resident of East Jerusalem in his 30s, was driving a car with Israeli license plates when he was killed in a shooting attack in the West Bank. Israel’s ambulance service, Magen David Adom, identified Mansour as an Israeli Arab. However, The Associated Press referred to him as a “Palestinian resident of Jerusalem.” Mansour, a father of two, tragically lost his life, while a woman accompanying him sustained injuries, according to reports from various Israeli outlets.

Furthermore, a car carrying a Palestinian man and woman accelerated into a Border Police officer in her 20s at an East Jerusalem checkpoint, police stated. The officer sustained minor injuries, prompting other officers to open fire on the vehicle, resulting in the deaths of both individuals inside. Tragically, a 3-year-old Palestinian girl in another vehicle at the checkpoint was unintentionally struck during the shooting and was pronounced dead at the scene.

These incidents occur against the backdrop of an ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, which began on October 7. Infiltrations by terrorists have led to the deaths of approximately 1,200 people and the kidnapping of 240 others, according to reports. The Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between civilian and combatant casualties, claims that over 22,000 people have lost their lives since the start of the conflict.
