Trinidad and Tobago: The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has announced the successful outcome of recent operations, resulting in the arrest of six individuals and the seizure of two firearms in the Southern and North Eastern Divisions. The police shared this information through a media release on Saturday, 6 January.

According to the police department’s statement, one operation was carried out on Saturday evening in the Northern Division, leading to the arrest of a man and the recovery of a firearm. In another operation conducted on the same day in the Southern Division, five more individuals were arrested for various offenses, and another firearm was seized.

The incident in the Northern Division occurred around 6:25 pm when officers from the North Eastern Division Task Force were patrolling 2nd Street Extension in Malick, a neighborhood in San Juan, Trinidad. The officers noticed a suspicious individual who appeared to be known to them. Upon seeing the police vehicle, the individual quickly changed direction. The officers approached the man, identified themselves, and conducted a search. They discovered a black bag slung across the man’s upper body, containing a loaded firearm with a magazine holding nine rounds of 9mm ammunition. The man was immediately arrested and taken to the San Juan Police Sub Station, where Officer Jaggernath is overseeing the investigation.

In the operation conducted in the Southern Division, officers from the Southern Division Task Force targeted several drug blocks between 10 am and 8 pm on Saturday. This operation led to the arrest of five suspects on the spot. Three of them were found in possession of cocaine, one had a firearm, and the fifth suspect was carrying an illegal device. The officers involved in this successful operation were Loutan, Rambhajan, and Jugmohan.

Among the five suspects arrested, two have been identified by the police. The suspect found in possession of the firearm and ammunition is a 21-year-old man residing in La Romaine, while the suspect carrying the illegal device is a 69-year-old man residing in Princes Town.

According to the police department’s statement, one of the arresting officers, PC Loutan, received information leading to the search of a bushy area in King’s Wharf, San Fernando, around 7 pm. During the search, a firearm with a magazine containing two rounds of ammunition was allegedly found in a black bag. The investigation and inquiries related to these operations are ongoing as the police aim to gather more information and apprehend additional criminals.

The local communities have expressed their appreciation for the efforts of the police department and are calling for more actions to enhance safety and security in society.
