A tragic incident occurred in Milwaukee, resulting in the loss of a pregnant woman and her unborn child. The devastating crash took place on Sunday, Jan. 7 near the intersection of 76th Street and Brown Deer Road.

The pregnant woman has been identified as Monique Stewart, a beloved member of the community. The news of her untimely demise has left her friends and family in deep mourning.

Milwaukee authorities reported that the fatal crash occurred at approximately 4:26 p.m.

Adriana Smith, a close friend of Monique Stewart, expressed her sorrow on Monday, Jan. 8. Overwhelmed with grief, she shared, “It’s with a heavy heart that we mourn our sweet Monique. She was a true gem, and her absence leaves us heartbroken.”

Monique Stewart, only 32 years old, was a vibrant and cherished individual. She brought light and joy into the lives of those around her, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.

Anita Garrett, Monique’s aunt, described her niece as an extraordinary person. She exclaimed, “Monique was everything to us. She was the embodiment of sunshine.”

The family shared that Monique Stewart was seven months pregnant, eagerly anticipating the arrival of her baby boy. Anita Garrett added, “She was absolutely thrilled about welcoming her little bundle of joy. There are no words to express her level of excitement.”

According to the Milwaukee police, Monique Stewart was traveling in a Dodge Caravan when a white Chevy Equinox collided with her vehicle. Sadly, the impact of the crash claimed both her life and that of her unborn child.

Four other passengers, including two children, were also involved in the accident and were transported to the hospital. Fortunately, authorities have confirmed that all of them are expected to survive.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office released a report stating that the white Chevy Equinox was traveling at approximately 100 miles per hour during the collision. The 18-year-old driver of the Chevy has been arrested and is currently in custody.

Anita Garrett pleaded, “Please slow down. The reckless actions of the driver have caused immense pain and suffering. At this moment, our entire family is united in prayer.”

Despite the immense grief they bear, Monique Stewart’s loved ones find solace in their faith, family, and cherished memories. Adriana Smith declared, “We will honor Monique’s memory by living life to the fullest and spreading the same compassion she shared with us.”

The 18-year-old responsible for the crash, who authorities believe was driving at an excessive speed, is currently incarcerated.

Stewart’s family now faces the heartbreaking task of planning a funeral for both her and her baby boy.

According to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office, Monique Stewart’s baby boy, who was approximately 30 weeks and 5 days gestation at the time of the crash, was delivered through an emergency C-Section. Tragically, the baby boy survived for only seven and a half hours before being pronounced dead at 12:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 8, at Children’s Wisconsin’s NICU.
