Five Members of Gang Apprehended in Connection with Techie’s Kidnap

By Express News Service

Less than 48 hours after the abduction of a techie from Raidurgam, Cyberabad police have successfully apprehended five members of the gang responsible for the crime. The gang had kidnapped the techie and demanded a ransom of Rs 2 crore from his wife. The techie’s cousin, 22-year-old Nikitha, who was also the complainant, has been identified as an accomplice in the case. As of now, two members of the gang are still at large.

According to the police, Nikitha contacted her cousin, Gurram Surendar, and requested a meeting on Khajaguda Lake road to discuss a personal matter. Surendar arrived at the designated spot and was conversing with Nikitha when a group of men arrived in a car and forcibly abducted him. Fortunately, a vigilant civilian immediately informed the police about the incident.

Meanwhile, Nikitha promptly went to the police station and filed a kidnapping complaint, ostensibly to assist the family. During this time, Surendar’s wife received a call from one of the kidnappers, who demanded a ransom of Rs 2 crore. However, upon realizing that the police were tracing their location, the kidnappers reduced their demand to Rs 20 lakh.

Madhapur in-charge DCP T Srinivasa Rao explained, “While the gang was driving near Kadthal, the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire four-wheeler they used for the abduction broke down.” The gang members then contacted Nikitha, requesting her to provide them with another vehicle. Nikitha, accompanied by her boyfriend Venkata Krishna, went to Surendar’s house, took his car, and handed it over to the gang at Kadthal.

As the police closely monitored the movements of the kidnappers, they took the road towards Srisailam forest. When Surendar spotted the police near the Atmakur forest check post, he cried out for help. Fearing capture, the kidnappers abandoned Surendar and fled the scene. Later, the Raidurgam police managed to apprehend five of the gang members, while two others remain at large.

The Planning of the Kidnap

Investigations have revealed that Nikitha and her boyfriend, who met at their office in Gachibowli, were in a romantic relationship and planning to get married. Both of them were in need of money, as was Venkata’s acquaintance, Gunjapogu Suresh, who has been accused in 21 cases of theft, robbery, and kidnapping for ransom.

Nikitha informed her boyfriend and Suresh that her cousin Surendar, a well-off techie, had recently built a house in Hyderabad. In December, the gang devised a plan to kidnap Surendar. Suresh and his associates attempted to kidnap Surendar twice before enlisting Nikitha’s help. Eventually, she played a role in kidnapping her own cousin from Khajaguda Lake.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of personal safety and vigilance in today’s society. The swift action taken by the Cyberabad police has resulted in the capture of five gang members, bringing a sense of relief to the victim’s family. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are actively searching for the remaining two members of the gang.
