Investigation into the Fatal Crash: Appeal for Witnesses

The Dartmouth Police Department swiftly responded to the scene of the fatal crash, which occurred at the intersection of Gulf Road and Smith Neck Road on Friday, January 5, at 10:35 p.m. The crash involved a single vehicle, a heavily damaged 2022 Honda Accord, and resulted in ejections.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive male and female lying in the roadway near the wreckage. Jacob Pothier, a resident of New Bedford, was pronounced dead at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. Kathleen Martins, a 44-year-old Dartmouth resident, sustained life-threatening injuries and remains in guarded condition.

The Dartmouth Police Department Crash Reconstruction Unit, in collaboration with the Massachusetts State Police and Dartmouth Police Department detectives, is currently investigating the crash.
