In a shocking turn of events, a trial is currently underway for a mother accused of murdering her 6-year-old son, whose remains were discovered in the woods near a cemetery in DeKalb County, Georgia over 20 years ago. What Happened?

According to reports from 11Alive, the tragic incident unfolded in 1998 when the young boy, identified as William Dashawn Hamilton, was unexpectedly taken out of school in Charlotte, North Carolina and relocated to Georgia by his mother. However, just a few months later, in February of the following year, authorities made a gruesome discovery near a cemetery in DeKalb County – the remains of the 6-year-old. It is estimated that the boy had been there for a period of three to six months.

At the time, the remains were difficult to identify, but in 2019, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children managed to create a facial rendering of the child, leading to his identification as William Dashawn Hamilton.

Who is Teresa Black?

Teresa Black, the mother of the deceased boy, has become the prime suspect in this tragic case. Angeline Hartmann, a true crime writer and podcaster who has been closely following the case, received a tip from a woman claiming to be a former neighbor. This woman recognized William’s face from the facial rendering and recalled that Teresa had briefly left North Carolina and returned without her son.

When questioned by the police, Black initially claimed that she had left her son with a woman at the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children because she could no longer care for him. However, investigators noted that she became emotional during the interrogation and eventually confessed that she and her son had spent a night sleeping in the wooded area next to the cemetery. She claimed that upon waking up, she discovered her son was dead and left his body there.

Black vehemently denies any involvement in her son’s death, but her actions raise suspicion. She never reported her son missing nor sought any medical assistance for him. As a result, she now faces multiple charges, including two counts of felony murder, two counts of cruelty to children, aggravated assault, and concealing the death of another.

Bombshell Testimonies from Trial

During the ongoing trial, several significant testimonies have been presented. William Hamilton Sr., the biological father of the deceased boy, testified that he received child support papers in the mail without any knowledge of his son’s death. He further stated that whenever he attempted to visit his son, Teresa Black would always provide false information about his whereabouts.

Another crucial testimony came from Laquese Black, Teresa’s ex-husband, who claimed that in 2005, he requested to speak with his stepson, but Teresa put a random boy on the phone, claiming it was William.

The trial also heard from Dr. Jane Turner, the medical examiner, who revealed that William’s toxicology report indicated the presence of Tylenol and Benadryl. Additionally, she mentioned that the anthropology report suggested the boy’s body had suffered damage from animal scavenging, but did not rule out the possibility of traumatic injury caused by a person.

As the trial progresses, Teresa Black maintains her innocence and is currently being held without bail.
