Montreal Man Facing Charges for Fatal New Year’s Day Hit-and-Run

A Montreal resident has been charged with causing the death of two men in a hit-and-run incident on New Year’s Day and will remain in custody until at least next month. Antoine Dubuc, 23, made a brief appearance at the Montreal courthouse, where his case was adjourned to February 14.

Dubuc is currently facing multiple charges, including dangerous driving causing death, fleeing the scene of a deadly collision, and impaired driving causing death.

The two victims have been identified as Augustin Wesley Katimba, 30, and Michael Chintakis, 31. Katimba, a generous soul, was a Namibian man who was tragically killed while returning home from church. Chintakis, on the other hand, was on his way to a friend’s house to celebrate New Year’s when the accident occurred.

During the court hearing, Dubuc’s lawyer requested additional evidence and the results from blood work before considering a bail hearing. This delay indicates that the defense is seeking a thorough examination of the case to ensure a fair trial.

The incident took place shortly after 1 a.m. when the accused allegedly struck the two pedestrians at a high speed and subsequently fled the scene. Initially, Dubuc attempted to escape in his vehicle but later abandoned it and continued on foot, according to the Montreal police.
