LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (WIBW) – Law enforcement authorities have officially identified the individual who lost his life during a recent encounter with the police in Leavenworth as Michael L. Mills, a 44-year-old man hailing from Indianola, Iowa.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) made the announcement on Monday, Jan. 8th, shedding light on the tragic incident that unfolded during a police confrontation in Leavenworth. The incident occurred over the weekend and resulted in the untimely demise of Michael L. Mills.

According to reports, the Leavenworth Police Department received a distress call on Saturday evening at approximately 9 p.m. Mills, the caller, expressed his desire to report a crime and additionally informed the police that he was armed.
Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officials discovered Mills in the front yard, brandishing a knife. In an attempt to diffuse the situation, he was repeatedly instructed to halt and drop the weapon. Regrettably, Mills ignored the commands and aggressively charged towards the officers, prompting them to fire their weapons in self-defense.
Following the incident, Mills was promptly transported to a nearby medical facility. However, despite the efforts of medical professionals, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
