MADISON, IN – According to a press release issued by the Madison Police Department on Saturday, January 6th, 2024, the Madison Police Department swiftly responded to a shooting incident after receiving a report.

Although the suspect had fled before the officers’ arrival, the investigation quickly identified a suspect, confirming that the incident was an isolated but targeted occurrence.

As stated in the press release, detectives successfully located and apprehended the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Mark N. Swafford, in Cross Plains, Indiana, where he resides.

After a brief pursuit, Swafford was taken into custody and is currently held at the Jefferson County Jail pending further investigation.

The victim, who received immediate medical treatment, is expected to make a full recovery.

Madison Police Chief Shawn Scudder expressed satisfaction with the arrest and extended gratitude to the law enforcement partners for their invaluable assistance.

Chief Scudder reassured the public of their unwavering commitment to addressing all crimes earnestly and working tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice.

While Swafford maintains the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law, he currently faces charges of Attempted Murder (Level 1 Felony), Aggravated Battery (Level 3 Felony), and Battery (Level 5 Felony).
