Suspect Faces Multiple Charges in Robbery and Assault Cases in Burlington

BURLINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) — A man is currently facing multiple charges after being accused of committing several robberies and assaults, according to a statement released by the Burlington Police Department.

The incident took place on Friday around 4:45 p.m. when officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle theft and an assault at an apartment complex located on Crouse Lane.

Upon arrival, the police discovered a 72-year-old man who had sustained a minor head injury as a result of the incident.

Investigation into the matter revealed that the victim had allowed the suspect, identified as McColline Thorpe Jr, 57, of Burlington, to enter their home. However, an argument ensued between the two individuals, leading the suspect to allegedly strike the victim with a cane. Following the assault, the suspect left the apartment and proceeded to steal the victim’s car.

In response to the incident, the Burlington Police Department issued a be-on-the-lookout alert, providing a description of the suspect as well as the stolen vehicle.

Within a span of two hours, state troopers located the stolen car on N.C. 501 in Person County.

As a result of the alleged assault that occurred on Friday, McColline Thorpe Jr has been charged with felony robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Additionally, Thorpe has been identified as the suspect in another robbery that took place on Christmas Eve on Trollinger Avenue.

For the Christmas Eve robbery, Thorpe faces charges of felony robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony assault inflicting serious injury, and felony larceny of a motor vehicle.

Currently, McColline Thorpe Jr is in custody in Person County, with his bond set at $41,000.
