Traffic Violations Prompted Police Action

On Sunday, January 4, local police officers initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle driving well below the speed limit and repeatedly drifting towards the center double-yellow line. Additionally, the officers discovered that the vehicle’s registration had expired.

Passenger Identified and Controlled Substances Found

Upon approaching the vehicle, law enforcement officials identified the passenger as Dillon Pugh. The car also contained another male driver and a 6-year-old girl seated in the back.

Admission of Possession and Discovery of Drugs

During the traffic stop, the driver voluntarily informed the police officer about having pills and a smoking device in his pocket. Subsequently, court documents revealed that Dillon Pugh admitted to possessing marijuana when asked to exit the vehicle.

Further search led to the discovery of additional contraband. The driver removed several items from his pockets, which included two pills identified as Hydrocodone and Percocet, a smoking device, and a baggie containing methamphetamine.

Seized Drugs and Field Sobriety Tests

Police officers found Pugh in possession of two more pills, identified as Hydrocodone and Percocet, along with approximately 2 grams of marijuana. Additionally, a container in Pugh’s backpack, which was field-tested positive for methamphetamine, was also seized.

As the investigation unfolded, Pugh confessed to “delivering” the two pills found on the driver to him earlier that day, indicating his involvement in drug distribution.

Impaired Driving Indications

According to the criminal complaint, several field sobriety tests were administered to the driver, revealing numerous signs of impairment. During the one-legged stand test, the driver was observed to have difficulty maintaining balance and stability. Moreover, he overestimated the time duration, claiming 30 seconds instead of the actual 18 seconds. Finally, the driver refused to complete the walk and turn test.

Legal Consequences and Possible Additional Charges

Dillon Pugh is currently being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail (TVRJ) as he awaits legal proceedings for the charges brought against him. Law enforcement authorities have indicated that more charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
