Incident Details
In the early hours of January 1, Baltimore Police Department officers on patrol near the 400 Block of East Baltimore Street were alerted to the sound of gunshots emanating from a parking garage on the unit block of Guilford Avenue.
Upon approaching the scene, the officers witnessed a 30-year-old male, later identified as Jamal Artis, exiting the parking garage stairwell onto East Baltimore Street. Recognizing the immediate threat, the officers swiftly detained and searched Artis, leading to the recovery of a firearm in his possession. Artis was subsequently taken into custody without incident.
Further investigation by the officers inside the parking garage unveiled a 22-year-old female victim who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Swift medical assistance was provided, and the victim was transported to a local hospital where she is currently in stable condition.
Following the arrest, Artis was transferred to the Central Booking Intake Facility. He is now facing charges of attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and additional related offenses.
