Israeli Airstrike in Southern Lebanon Claims Life of Senior Hezbollah Commander

BEIRUT — A senior commander in Hezbollah’s elite Radwan force has been killed in a recent Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon, according to three security sources who informed Reuters news agency.

The deceased Hezbollah figure has been identified as Wissam Tawil, the deputy head of a unit within the group’s esteemed Radwan force, as reported by Reuters. The strike, which targeted the Lebanese village of Majdal Selm, resulted in the unfortunate deaths of Tawil and another Hezbollah fighter who were traveling in a car at the time.

“This strike inflicts immense pain,” expressed one of the security sources, while another added, “Tensions are likely to escalate following this incident.”

Hezbollah’s leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, has previously cautioned Israel against initiating a full-scale war on Lebanon.

In a similar vein, a security source shared with French news agency AFP that a prominent commander responsible for managing Hezbollah’s operations has been killed in an “Israeli raid targeting his vehicle in southern Lebanon.”

Lebanon’s state media agency reported earlier that injuries occurred as a result of an Israeli drone strike on a Skoda Rapid car in the vicinity of Al-Dabsha area, located in the town of Khirbet Selm within the Bint Jbeil district.

The strike caused the car to veer off the road and catch fire, according to the media agency.

Emergency medical and firefighting teams from the Civil Defense, Islamic Scouts, Red Cross, and other responders promptly arrived at the scene to extinguish the flames.

In an unrelated development, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that its troops have eliminated 10 “terrorists” in Khan Younis.

Through a Telegram post, the military announced that its troops had thwarted an attempted rocket launch towards Israeli territory by neutralizing 10 “terrorists” in Khan Younis. Additionally, the IDF, in collaboration with the Israeli Air Force, successfully targeted 30 significant locations in the southern Gaza city, including underground facilities, terror infrastructure, and weapons storage sites.

The IDF further reported the identification and elimination of three Hamas members in separate incidents within the area.

In a different operation, IDF troops discovered a tunnel shaft, along with a significant amount of money and weaponry, in an agricultural area situated in the central Gaza Strip.

Moreover, in Al-Maghazi, central Gaza, troops directed a fighter jet that struck a weapons storage facility housing long-range rockets.

As tensions continue to rise in the region, the impact of this Israeli airstrike and subsequent military actions remains to be seen.
