Adding to the wave of violence, a separate series of armed attacks in the city of León resulted in the deaths of eight individuals and left three others injured, including a pregnant woman and a baby. These disturbing incidents occurred during the Three Kings Day celebrations, marking a tragic start to the new year in Guanajuato.

The first massacre of the year in Guanajuato took place on January 6, 2024, when two assailants on motorcycles stormed a house in the San Marcos neighborhood. Four people inside the house were ruthlessly killed, including two women identified as Rosalba and Miriam, aged 32 and 22, respectively. The victims also included Ismael, 18, and Jorge Ismael, 60, both surnamed Cruz. Tragically, a pregnant woman was among the injured.

Authorities were alerted to the shooting by concerned neighbors, who witnessed the horrifying incident. Law enforcement agencies arrived at the scene to find four lifeless bodies and rushed the injured woman to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care. Witnesses reported that the attackers fled on a motorcycle after carrying out the brutal assault.

Investigations into these heinous crimes are underway, with special attention being given to collecting forensic evidence and identifying the perpetrators responsible for the bloodshed.

Armed Group Targets Innocent Family

Another shocking incident occurred during the celebration of the patron saint in the Puerta de San Germán community. A group of assailants entered a property and opened fire on a family who were participating in the religious festivities. As a result, one man was killed, a two-month-old baby was injured by gunfire, and the baby’s father also sustained injuries. The baby’s health condition is reported to be critical.

In a separate incident, a prominent leader of merchants in the Piel de León Zone, identified as Mauricio, was assassinated while conducting his business activities on Taxco Street near the Bus Station. The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head, indicating a targeted attack.

Furthermore, a man was shot and killed behind the Supply Central area, commonly known as the “Black Market.” The circumstances surrounding this murder remain unknown, as no clues have been found to identify those responsible.

In yet another tragic incident, a 40-year-old woman was shot dead in front of her son in a vacant lot in the Santa Anita neighborhood. The attackers reportedly knocked on the door, and when the woman saw them, she attempted to flee to a nearby vacant lot to protect herself. However, she was fatally shot before reaching safety.

The State Attorney General’s Office has refrained from disclosing further details about these crimes, leaving the community in distress and demanding answers.

Violence Erupts Amid Alleged Criminal Leader’s Arrest

The alleged arrest of a prominent criminal leader sparked riots and chaos in the municipalities of Celaya, Villagran, and Juventino Rosas. Reports of shootings and vehicle burnings flooded in, painting a grim picture of the deteriorating security situation in the region.

During these incidents, a firefighting unit was targeted by gunfire while attempting to extinguish a burning vehicle on Mutualismo Street. Armed individuals seized trucks, a trailer, and compact cars from innocent drivers and set them ablaze. These brazen acts of violence further escalated the tensions in the area.

Blockades with burning vehicles were reported in various communities, including San José de Guanajuato, Santa Rosa de Lima, Yustis, Cuenda, Adolfo López Mateos Boulevard, and the Pan-American Highway. The mobilization of the National Guard, the Army, municipal police, and State Forces was necessary to restore order and ensure the safety of the residents.
