Tragic Accident Claims Life on U.S. 223
MADISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A fatal collision occurred on Monday morning on U.S. 223 in Lenawee County, resulting in the loss of one individual’s life. The Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office promptly responded to reports of the crash at the intersection of U.S. 223 and Division Street in Madison Township.

According to officials, the incident involved a 2022 Kenworth semi-truck driven by a 64-year-old man from Jackson, Michigan, traveling westbound on U.S. 223. Simultaneously, a 35-year-old woman from Clayton, Michigan, operating a 2007 Chevy Impala, was attempting to make a left turn onto Division Street from eastbound U.S. 223.
Tragically, as the woman executed her left turn, the semi-truck collided with the passenger side of the Impala, resulting in a devastating impact.
Fatalities and Injuries
The Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the front seat passenger in the Impala, a 30-year-old man from Clayton, Michigan, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The female driver of the Impala, aged 35, sustained serious injuries and was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Additionally, the semi-truck driver, while experiencing minor injuries, was also taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Safety Measures and Investigation
Authorities have emphasized that all occupants of both vehicles were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision. As is standard procedure, the names of those involved are being withheld until their families have been notified.
