William Taylor Identified as the Alleged Killer
According to Toronto police, if William Taylor were alive today, he would be facing a first-degree murder charge in connection with the death of Kevin McBride. Taylor, who was first identified as a suspect in 2022, passed away in May 2023.
Revisiting the Cold Case
In 2016, Toronto police’s homicide cold case investigators reopened the investigation into Kevin McBride’s murder, focusing primarily on retesting exhibits and items from the original investigation. The aim was to leverage advancements in DNA testing technology to potentially uncover new leads.
DNA Testing Reveals Crucial Evidence
Through meticulous DNA testing, investigators made a breakthrough discovery. The testing revealed that William Taylor, previously identified as a suspect, was the source of previously unknown DNA found at the crime scene. This finding provided crucial evidence linking Taylor to the murder.
The 1982 Murder of Kevin McBride
Kevin McBride was found dead in his northeast Toronto apartment on May 17, 1982, with multiple stab wounds. The investigation at the time suggested that McBride had been killed two days earlier, on the day he was last seen. Additionally, investigators discovered that his vehicle and credit card had been stolen and subsequently used between May 15 and 17, 1982.
