Arrest Made in 2022 Homicide of 14-Month-Old Child in Colorado Springs

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has announced a significant breakthrough in a disturbing case, with the arrest of a suspect in connection with the 2022 homicide of a 14-month-old child. This development brings renewed hope for justice in this tragic incident.

The Heartbreaking Discovery

On November 16, 2022, the CSPD responded to a distressing call in the 800 block of Costilla Avenue. Officers arrived to find an unresponsive 14-month-old child. Despite their best efforts to save the child’s life, it was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives from the Crimes Against Children (CAC) Unit were immediately notified and launched a comprehensive investigation.

Determining the Unfathomable Truth

In January 2023, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office determined that the child’s death was a result of intentional harm, classifying it as a homicide. This revelation intensified the efforts of the dedicated detectives, who diligently pursued every lead in their quest for justice. Months of tireless investigative work followed, ultimately leading to a breakthrough.

The Arrest

On January 4, 2024, the CSPD applied for an arrest warrant for the child’s mother, identified as 32-year-old Amber Comstock from Colorado Springs. The warrant alleged that she was responsible for the child’s tragic fate. The following day, on January 5, 2024, Comstock was taken into custody on charges of Child Abuse – Criminal Negligence Resulting in Death, a class 3 Felony. This development marks a significant step forward in the pursuit of justice for the innocent child.
