A 22-year-old man with a criminal background, who was out on bail, was fatally attacked by a mob armed with sharp weapons and iron rods in the Municipality Colony area of Baran city in Rajasthan. The incident, which occurred on Saturday evening (January 6), resulted in the death of Kartik Pankaj, a resident of Krishna Nagar. The victim was assaulted by a group of 10-12 individuals at approximately 8:30 pm, as confirmed by Ramvilas Meena, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Baran City Police Station.
Despite a sharp weapon lodged in his stomach, Pankaj was immediately rushed to a local hospital. However, due to the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently referred to another hospital in Kota. Tragically, he succumbed to his wounds during treatment on Sunday, according to SHO Meena.

Police Investigation and Statement
Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that Pankaj had been released on bail two months ago. They surmise that the attack on him was a retaliatory measure for his alleged actions of vandalizing a vehicle belonging to the accused party by breaking its windows on Friday night.
Four individuals have been detained in connection with the incident, and Pankaj’s body has been handed over to his family, as confirmed by the SHO. Initially, an FIR (First Information Report) was filed by Pankaj’s father, Ramu Pankaj, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and SC/ST Act. The charge of murder was later added, naming 11 individuals in the FIR.
“The key suspect, Narottam Prajapat, and three others have been detained, and efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining individuals,” stated SHO Meena.
The victim’s family and members of his community staged a demonstration, blocking a road in the area. Their demands included compensation for the victim’s family and swift punishment for the accused. Authorities were eventually able to persuade them to call off the protest.
