A Growing Response to Escalating Street Crime

The cosmopolitan city of Karachi is grappling with a surge in vigilantism as its citizens feel compelled to confront the escalating threat posed by street criminals. Frustrated with the ineffective law enforcement, individuals have taken matters into their own hands to protect themselves and their fellow citizens.

Citizens Injure Robbers in Act of Self-Defense

In a recent incident in Zaman Town, Korangi No 6, Sector 51 C, citizens on a self-help basis shot at and seriously injured two street criminals who were looting people. The suspects, identified as Abid (28) and Mehtab (30), sustained critical chest wounds and were rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) for treatment.

Public Apprehends Robbers After a Severe Beating

Despite initially managing to escape the scene, the robbers were later apprehended by the public and subjected to severe beating. The Zaman Town police confirmed the incident and reported that the suspects were caught after a brief chase. The injured criminals were handed over to the authorities for further legal action.

Weapons and Loot Recovered

Upon reaching the crime scene, the police seized two pistols, two mobile phones, a wallet, cash, and a motorcycle from the robbers. This successful intervention by the citizens highlights the growing frustration with the rising crime rates and the need for immediate action.

A Pattern of Public Outrage

This incident adds to a series of recent confrontations between citizens and criminals, underscoring the palpable frustration with the city’s law enforcement. December witnessed a notable increase in public-initiated tribunals, resulting in the killing of seven robbers in just four days. The areas of Orangi Town, Surjani Town, Korangi, and Mominabad each experienced such incidents, reflecting the collective outrage against these ruthless criminals.
