The Abia State Police Command announced on Saturday that they have apprehended a radio presenter suspected of sodomising a teenage boy in the Obingwa area of the state.

The incident was reported to the police on January 1, 2024, and involves the alleged unlawful carnal knowledge of a 15-year-old boy by the suspect, identified as Chigozie.

In an official statement released by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, the command stated, “Mr Chigozie has been accused of engaging in unlawful carnal knowledge with a minor whose identity is being withheld. Our discreet investigation is currently underway, and once completed, the matter will be brought before the court.”

However, sources have revealed that the 37-year-old individual residing in the Eastern Ngwa division is not an employee of any radio station but rather operates as a freelance journalist in various radio stations within Aba.

Our correspondent has discovered that Chigozie was apprehended on December 31, 2023, at his place of residence following a complaint lodged at the Eastern Ngwa Police Station by the victim’s father.

According to the victim’s account, the suspect took him to a location near a hotel in Aba and offered him bread, which he refused to eat.

Subsequently, the victim alleges that the suspect slapped him, causing him to fall onto the bed and fall asleep. Upon waking up the next morning, he experienced pain in his anus.

It has been learned that when the teenager confronted the suspect about what had transpired, the man allegedly threatened to kill him if he disclosed the incident to anyone.

Chigozie is presently detained at the Eastern Ngwa Police Station pending further investigation.
