Homeowner Charged After Shooting Suspected Intruder in Petersburg

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — A homeowner in Petersburg has been charged after allegedly shooting a man who was suspected of breaking and entering his home during the evening on Friday, according to the Petersburg Bureau of Police.

The incident took place on January 5th at around 6 p.m. when officers from the Petersburg Bureau of Police responded to a call regarding a person shot in the 70 block of Grayson Street, located in the western area of the city.

Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement discovered 54-year-old Wayne Cherry suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Fortunately, the injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening.
