Man Kills Mother and Infant Son, Injures Wife after Argument in Chhattisgarh’s Balod District

Balod, Jan 7 (PTI) – Tragic Incident Unfolds in Usarwara Village

In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded in Chhattisgarh’s Balod district on Saturday, a 30-year-old man allegedly killed his own mother and two-month-old son while injuring his wife with a brutal axe attack. The accused, identified as Bhawani Nishad, was arrested by the police following the incident that took place in Usarwara village under the jurisdiction of Purur police station.

Stolen ATM Card and Guilt Result in Tragic Turn of Events

The shocking crime is believed to have been triggered by a series of events. Approximately a week ago, Bhawani Nishad reportedly stole an ATM card from a local villager and unlawfully withdrew Rs 40,000 from the victim’s bank account. As word spread about the theft, guilt seemingly consumed the accused.

Intoxicated Argument Turns Violent

On Saturday, Bhawani Nishad returned home in an inebriated state and engaged in a heated argument with his wife, pertaining to the stolen money. This argument quickly escalated into a horrifying act of violence. Armed with an axe, the accused launched a vicious attack on his wife, mother, and innocent infant son, declaring his intention to annihilate the entire family before taking his own life. It is worth noting that the accused’s father was not present at home during the incident.

Swift Action and Tragic Outcome

Fortunately, alert locals who witnessed the gruesome scene immediately rushed to the spot and notified the police. Authorities swiftly arrived at the crime scene, leading to the arrest of Bhawani Nishad. Tragically, his mother, Shanti Nishad (50), and two-month-old son, Vaibhav, succumbed to their injuries. His wife, Jageshwari (26), managed to survive the brutal assault but sustained severe injuries. She was promptly admitted to a hospital in Dhamtari, where her condition is now stable.

Admission of Guilt and Legal Action

During police interrogation, Bhawani Nishad confessed to committing the heinous crime. A case has been registered against him, and a thorough investigation is currently underway to ascertain all the details surrounding this shocking incident.

Disturbing Pattern of Domestic Violence in Chhattisgarh

This horrifying incident is not an isolated case. In recent times, Chhattisgarh has witnessed a distressing surge in domestic violence incidents resulting in tragic outcomes. On January 1, a 34-year-old man from Bilaspur district allegedly murdered his wife and three minor children due to suspicions of her involvement in an extramarital affair. Similarly, on December 25, 2023, a 40-year-old man in Durg district poisoned his wife and two young daughters before taking his own life, resulting in the death of both the man and one of his daughters. Another devastating incident occurred on December 29 in Raipur, where a couple and their 14-year-old daughter were found hanging inside their residence.

These distressing incidents highlight the urgent need for increased awareness, education, and support systems to address domestic violence in Chhattisgarh and ensure the safety and well-being of individuals and families.
