Investigation Underway After Shooting at Chippenham Hospital’s Mental Health Facility

The Richmond Police Department has launched an investigation following a distressing incident that occurred at Chippenham Hospital’s mental health facility. A patient and a police officer were both shot during the incident, prompting a swift response from law enforcement authorities.

At approximately 4:11 a.m. on Friday, December 22nd, a call was made to the Tucker’s Pavilion at Chippenham Hospital reporting a shooting. Responding officers, who happened to be in the emergency area of the hospital at the time, promptly arrived at the scene to assess the situation.

Upon arrival, the officers discovered a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Fortunately, the injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening. Subsequent investigation revealed that the victim was a patient receiving treatment at the hospital’s mental health facility.

In addition to the wounded patient, the suspect, a 27-year-old man from Glen Allen, was also present at the scene. Remarkably, he surrendered to the authorities without any resistance and was subsequently taken into custody.
