The incident occurred on Saturday at approximately 5:00 p.m. A vigilant trooper was patrolling near the 241-mile marker on Interstate 69 when she noticed a blue Chevrolet Cruz exhibiting an equipment violation. Concerned about public safety, the trooper initiated a traffic stop and approached the driver’s side door. However, the driver, determined to evade law enforcement, attempted to flee the scene. What ensued was a 10-minute pursuit solely within the confines of Interstate 69, during which the driver discarded several bags from the vehicle. Fortunately, another trooper happened to be patrolling near the 151-mile marker and deployed stop-sticks, effectively puncturing the fleeing vehicle’s tires. Realizing the futility of escape, the driver came to a halt upon reaching the 151-mile marker, surrendering safely to the police. Subsequently, troopers conducted a thorough search of the vehicle and the driver.

During the custodial search, troopers made a significant discovery – marijuana. Equally noteworthy, a subsequent search of the vicinity surrounding the pursuit revealed the presence of additional bags of marijuana, further implicating the driver.

The driver, identified as Zachariah Avery Malek Randolph, a 25-year-old resident of Marion, Indiana, was promptly arrested and preliminarily charged with several offenses:
