The Birmingham Police Department received a distressing call reporting a person shot in the 8400 block of 7th Avenue South around 5:05 p.m. that day. Responding swiftly, East Precinct officers arrived at the scene and discovered the lifeless body of Ledaron Pope, who appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel also arrived promptly but unfortunately pronounced Pope dead on the scene.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald provided insight into the ongoing investigation, stating, “The preliminary investigation strongly suggests that the victim may have been shot during a home invasion.” The police statement, however, did not clarify whether the deceased individual was the suspected perpetrator involved in the potential home invasion.

As of now, no suspects have been apprehended, leaving the Birmingham Police Department actively searching for leads and gathering evidence to bring justice to this tragic incident.
