Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East Irfan Bahadur confirmed that the suspect, identified as Naimatullah Gilani, has been apprehended by the police. A case has been registered based on the complaint lodged by the victim’s family.

According to the police, Gilani forcibly entered Tanveer Bano’s residence in Block 7 and launched a vicious assault on her. First, he subjected her to an acid attack, and then he mercilessly struck her with a blunt object, ultimately causing her death.

“The suspect has been taken into custody and is currently being interrogated at the police station,” stated SSP Bahadur. He further revealed that the couple had divorced approximately a year ago.

During the investigation, the victim’s children provided a harrowing account of their father’s repeated threats against their mother’s life. The police are closely examining this piece of information to establish a motive for the heinous crime.

The body of the deceased has been transferred to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a detailed post-mortem examination.

Police Surgeon, Dr. Summaiya Syed, reported that the 50-year-old woman had suffered severe “corrosive substance burns on her upper body caused by the acid attack.” Additionally, acid wounds were found on her face and back, while her clothes were torn, indicating an attempt to seek refuge during the assault.

Dr. Syed added, “The victim also sustained multiple injuries on her head and skull, resulting from violent impacts inflicted by a hard, blunt object.” She expressed her belief that the weapon used could possibly be an ‘iron rod.’

Rabia, the victim’s daughter, was also brought to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment, as she had sustained minor burns on her hands and forehead during the attack. She has now been referred to the Burns Centre at the Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for further medical assistance.

This horrifying incident has sent shockwaves through the community, raising concerns about the safety and protection of women. The police are committed to ensuring justice for the victim and her family, and they are working diligently to build a solid case against the perpetrator.
