Suspect Faces Attempted Murder Charges in Sleepy Hollow Shooting

Ruben Santiago, who was taken into custody on Wednesday, Jan. 3, now faces attempted murder charges in connection with a shooting that occurred in Sleepy Hollow on Tuesday, Jan. 2, according to an announcement by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office on Friday, Jan. 5.

The incident took place around 4:30 p.m. when Santiago violated an order of protection and forcibly entered his ex-girlfriend’s residence on Chestnut Street in Sleepy Hollow, located near Valley Street. Armed with a .38 caliber revolver, Santiago shot the victim, causing wounds to her neck and hand, officials reported.

The 37-year-old victim is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital for her injuries.

Following the shooting, Sleepy Hollow Police identified Santiago as the suspect and traced him to the Bronx, where he was apprehended.

Santiago was charged with multiple offenses during his arraignment in Sleepy Hollow Village Court, including second-degree attempted murder, first-degree attempted assault, second-degree assault, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, and aggravated criminal contempt. He was subsequently remanded to Westchester County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Jan. 22.

Chief Anthony Bueti of Sleepy Hollow Police commended the officers and detectives involved in the investigation for their thoroughness and swift response, ensuring the safety of the community and local schools. Bueti expressed his thoughts and support for the victim and her family.
