Albuquerque Police Officer Apprehends Suspected Shoplifter Outside Local Target Store

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – In a recent social media post shared by the Albuquerque Police Department (APD), an officer successfully apprehends a suspected shoplifter shortly after he was accused of stealing from a Target retail store in the city. This incident comes after APD’s successful completion of their retail crime operation, aimed at tackling thefts in local stores.

The post focuses on APD Officer Raymond Casias, who promptly responds to a reported shoplifting incident at the Target store located on Montgomery Blvd and Wyoming Blvd. The accompanying video shows Casias locating the suspect, identified as David Quintana, outside the shopping area and approaching him.

Upon approaching Quintana, Casias informs him that he is being detained. As the officer moves closer, the suspect can be heard saying, “I just went to court.” Simultaneously, Quintana begins to scratch his head, causing a piece of merchandise to fall from his jacket.

According to a criminal complaint, a Target employee witnessed Quintana taking a flashlight from the home goods section before proceeding to the electronics department, where he allegedly grabbed several video games.

“This is a bold statement, and we want to assure the public that we are taking these shoplifters seriously,” stated APD Chief Harold Medina during a press conference held late last year.

During the three-month-long “Sticky Fingers Operation,” APD announced that they had made a total of 332 arrests related to retail crime. Additionally, they successfully recovered approximately $60,000 worth of stolen merchandise and cleared 110 outstanding warrants.

In the case of Quintana’s arrest, the criminal complaint alleges that he stole merchandise valued at slightly over $300. The Metropolitan Detention Center confirmed that Quintana was released from custody the following day.
