Air Canada Flight Diverted After Teen Boy Allegedly Attacks Family Member Mid-Flight
NEW DELHI: A plane travelling from Toronto to Calgary was forced to divert after a teenage boy reportedly attacked a family member on board. The incident occurred on Air Canada Flight 137 on Wednesday, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
The Winnipeg Richardson International Airport received a report of the flight diversion to Winnipeg around 12:20 pm local time. The diversion was necessary due to “an unruly passenger on board who had assaulted a fellow passenger,” stated the police.
The police investigation revealed that a 16-year-old boy from Grande Prairie assaulted a man who was later identified as a family member. Following the assault, airline employees and passengers were able to restrain the youth.

As a result of the incident, the Calgary-bound plane was redirected to the Winnipeg airport, where authorities promptly arrested the teenager. Upon the flight’s arrival, the family member who was assaulted received treatment for minor physical injuries.
The teenage suspect was taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation, and officials have yet to determine the motive behind the assault.
