Tragic Fire Claims Lives of Three Children in St. Paul Home

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The St. Paul community is mourning the loss of three young children who tragically lost their lives in a devastating fire that occurred in their family home. The number of casualties has risen to three, as confirmed by the children’s grief-stricken family members on Saturday.

During a news conference, Pa Cheng Vang, the father of the children, expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support shown by the community since the fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday. At the time, Vang was away from home, fulfilling his work commitments.

The children have been identified as 5-year-old twin girls named Sivntxhi Vang and Ntshiab Si Vang, along with their 4-year-old brother, Manj Those Nutj Vang. Sadly, Sivntxhi passed away on the day of the incident, while the family announced the tragic deaths of the two other children on Saturday.

Currently, a 1-year-old child and their 28-year-old mother remain hospitalized in critical condition, as revealed by the family. However, there is a ray of hope as the conditions of the two other children, who were also hospitalized, have shown signs of improvement.

In an emotional plea to the public, the children’s father urged every family to practice fire drills at home, emphasizing the importance of being prepared, especially during the night. He expressed his deep concern, stating, “I don’t want any family, or the community, to witness the same tragedy that my family has endured.”

St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter stood in solidarity with the family during the news conference, revealing his personal connection with the couple and their children. Carter shared that Vang’s wife, Ker Lor, had previously interned in his office, making the loss even more heart-wrenching. “You’ve endured all of our worst nightmares,” expressed the sympathetic mayor.

While the cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental, Deputy Fire Chief Roy Mokosso confirmed that an investigation is still underway. The home was equipped with functioning smoke detectors, highlighting the importance of these safety measures.
