Toronto’s First Homicide of the Year Ruled as Murder-Suicide
In a tragic start to the new year, a 28-year-old man was found dead in North York, marking the city’s first homicide of 2023. Toronto Police have since classified the incident as a murder-suicide.

According to authorities, officers received a distress call on January 2nd at approximately 8:20 a.m. The incident occurred at a residence near the intersection of Bathurst St. and Baycrest Ave., just south of Hwy. 401.
Upon entering the residential unit, law enforcement discovered the lifeless bodies of a man and a woman. Constable Laura Brabant, in a statement released on Saturday, confirmed that the deceased individuals were acquainted and known to each other.
Brabant further stated that the male victim’s body exhibited signs of trauma, indicating a violent end. However, the exact cause of death has not been disclosed.

Man, 18, injured as gunfire erupts in the city overnight
The victim has been identified as Mert Sozdinler, a 28-year-old resident of Toronto. However, authorities have yet to disclose the exact circumstances surrounding his death.
Constable Brabant revealed that homicide investigators believe the deceased woman is responsible for both fatalities. Consequently, they are seeking information from anyone familiar with the victim or the incident.
At present, the identity of the woman remains undisclosed, and the nature of her relationship with the male victim has not been revealed.
