Prime Suspect Apprehended in Tragic Murder of 6-Year-Old Maria in Lower Dir

The Lower Dir police have acted swiftly to apprehend the prime suspect involved in the heart-wrenching murder of 6-year-old Maria within a mere 24 hours, leading to a confession from the accused.

District Police Officer (DPO) Zia-ud-din Ahmed held a media briefing at his office, providing details of the incident. According to DPO Ahmed, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Munda Police Station received distressing information about the discovery of a young girl’s lifeless body along the Panjkora river bank. The victim, identified as Maria, had gone missing after leaving her home in Khazana village on Wednesday evening. Concerned about her absence, Maria’s father, Abdul Rahman, reported the matter to the police. Tragically, Maria’s lifeless body was found at DHQ Hospital Timergara. Rahman, the son of Nasir Khan, expressed that he held no personal grudges against anyone.

Swift action was taken by the grieving father, who filed a case against the unidentified assailant. Within the crucial 24-hour window, the Munda Police successfully apprehended the accused, who now faces charges under sections 302/377, marking the beginning of a thorough investigation into the matter.

In response to this horrific incident, the Provincial Police Officer and Regional Police Officer of Malakand wasted no time in taking action. They assembled a specialized team comprising SP Investigation Zahoor Ahmad, DSP Investigation Zaman Shah, SDPO Jandool Circle Bakht Jamal, and other officers. Led by DPO Ziauddin Ahmed, this team initiated a meticulous inquiry, which ultimately resulted in the arrest of the main culprit within 24 hours. The prime suspect has been identified as Niaz Ali Khan, the son of Gul Raip Khan. He is a resident of Bannu but presently residing in Khazana village, Lower Dir district.

During police interrogation, the accused confessed to subjecting the minor to sexual abuse before fatally strangling her and disposing of her body in the nearby Panjkora river. DPO Ahmed, originally from Bannu district, had been residing in a rented house in Khazana village for the past two years.
