Newtown police have confirmed that the remains discovered in the woods near Edmond Road in October belong to a Southbury woman in her 70s. The deceased has been identified as Janet Connor, a 73-year-old resident of Southbury. Authorities have stated that her death is not considered suspicious.

According to a news release by the Newtown police, Connor was believed to have been transient at the time of her death. Her last known residence was in Southbury. The police have found no evidence suggesting any suspicious circumstances surrounding her demise. The department expressed its condolences to the family in their official statement.

The discovery of Connor’s remains was made after a caller alerted the Newtown police on October 13 last year. Upon responding to the call, the police confirmed the presence of human remains. Although investigations were carried out, there were no indications of foul play or suspicious activity related to Connor’s death.

Approximately ten days after the remains were located, the case was included in the NamUs database. NamUs serves as an online repository for missing, unclaimed, and unidentified person cases.

The database report described the remains as “not recognizable” and indicated that they belonged to a near complete or complete skeleton. Height estimates by investigators suggest that Connor was between 5 feet and 5 feet 6 inches tall.

Furthermore, the report listed various items of clothing and jewelry that were found on the body. These included a Lands End jacket, a size XL Lands End long-sleeved shirt, a size XL Pure Jill sweater, a Pandora bracelet, a necklace with a cross containing clear stones, and a pair of yellow metal hoop earrings measuring approximately three-eighths of an inch or 10mm in diameter, as stated in the NamUs report.
