The main suspect in the murder case of 24-year-old Starlet Wahu Mwangi is now being investigated for possible serial killings both within and outside Nairobi.

This new development comes after another victim reported an attempted murder at the Makadara sub-county police headquarters. She shared her harrowing experience with the suspect, John Ongoa Matara, whom she had met on a dating site.

The ongoing investigations took a shocking turn on Saturday when more victims came forward to provide statements regarding the assaults and attempts on their lives by the 30-year-old Matara.

One victim recounted falling prey to the suspect on December 29th of the previous year, just days after connecting on a dating site.

In a chilling account, the victim described her encounter with Matara on the dating site before booking an AirBnB. However, things quickly turned violent when he demanded access to her financial accounts.

“I met this guy on a dating site…he seemed so nice and even took me to an AirBnB. In the middle of the night, he started strangling me and even asked for my M-Pesa statements,” she said, adding, “He was trying to strangle me so much.”

Preliminary findings from the police suggest that Matara may be a serial killer targeting women through online dating platforms.

“He did bad things to me and asked for my accounts and asked me to transfer the money to him,” she added.

The victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, positively identified Matara as the perpetrator after news of Starlet Wahu’s murder spread. She confirmed that the individual matched the person she encountered.

“It is the same guy…the number posted by DCI is the same guy I can testify that I used to transfer money to him which is John Ongoa Mtara,” the victim narrated.

These shocking revelations come after the burial of Wahu, who was tragically murdered in an AirBnB located in Nairobi’s South B. Her funeral took place at her parents’ home in the Kamulu area of Ruai.

Her burial occurred just two days after her lifeless body was discovered on Thursday, shortly after she checked into the apartment on Wednesday night.

Video surveillance from Papino apartments captured Wahu and Matara entering an elevator within the apartment block on Wednesday. They then disembarked on the fourth floor and proceeded to the room they had reportedly rented for the night.

“They booked the apartment and at 4 am, that incident occurred,” stated Makadara OCPD Judy Nyongesa.

The police discovered Wahu’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood inside the apartment after the AirBnB security reported the incident to the authorities.

Matara reportedly left the premises in a hurry on Thursday morning, wearing blood-stained clothes. He was later arrested at Mbagathi hospital, where he had gone for treatment after inflicting a stab wound to his stomach. The police believe he injured himself to mislead the investigators.

A post-mortem examination conducted on Friday revealed that Wahu died due to excessive bleeding from stab wounds.

Police reports also indicate that there were signs of a struggle between Wahu and her killer, as the crime scene appeared bloody, disarrayed, and chaotic.

Additionally, the police discovered HIV testing kits, used condoms, marijuana, a bottle of alcohol, and a blood-stained kitchen knife believed to be the murder weapon at the scene.

In the latest update on the murder case of 24-year-old Starlet Wahu Mwangi, the main suspect, John Ongoa Matara, is now being investigated for possible serial killings in and outside Nairobi. This shocking revelation follows a report from another victim who had encountered Matara on a dating site and narrowly escaped an attempted murder.
