Senior Citizen Fatally Run Over by Dump Truck in Cebu City
A tragic incident occurred on Friday, January 5, 2024, in Barangay Mactan, Cebu City, where a senior citizen lost his life after being run over by a dump truck while riding his bicycle. The victim, identified as Herminihildo Villaver, was a 61-year-old fish vendor residing in Zone 6, Barangay Buaya, Lapu-Lapu City.
According to Police Staff Sergeant Allan Osabel, a traffic investigator from the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, the accident took place around 6 p.m. It was revealed that Villaver attempted to bypass the traffic by maneuvering between cars. However, as he reached the side of the dump truck driven by Arnie John Miñoza, aged 29 and married, from Purok 4, Barangay San Jose, Cebu City, he lost his balance due to potholes on the road. Tragically, he fell and was subsequently run over by the rear tires of the truck, resulting in severe head injuries that claimed his life on the spot.
The authorities have taken the dump truck driver into custody. Further investigation will be conducted to determine the exact circumstances of the accident and ascertain any possible negligence on the part of the driver.
This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety for all individuals, regardless of age.
