Investigation underway after shooting at Chippenham Hospital’s mental health facility

The Richmond Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into a shooting incident that took place at the mental health facility of Chippenham Hospital, resulting in injuries to both a patient and a police officer.

On Friday, December 22nd at 4:11 a.m., a distress call was received by the authorities, prompting officers to rush to Tucker’s Pavilion at Chippenham Hospital where the shooting was reported to have occurred.

Officers who happened to be in the hospital’s emergency area at the time quickly reached the scene. There, they discovered a man who had sustained gunshot wounds. Fortunately, the injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening. The victim was later identified as a patient receiving treatment at the hospital.

Additionally, the officers apprehended the suspect, a 27-year-old individual from Glen Allen, who surrendered without resistance and was subsequently taken into custody.

The Richmond Police Department, in collaboration with other relevant agencies, is now actively investigating the incident to ascertain the motives behind the shooting and gather any additional evidence that may lead to a clearer understanding of the events that transpired.
