Sakinaka Police Arrest Nigerian Drug Peddler, Seize Cocaine Worth Rs 9 Crore

Setting an example of how alert and proactive policing can prevent and detect serious crimes, the Sakinaka police on Friday night apprehended an alleged Nigerian drug peddler during a routine night patrol. The police seized a staggering 880 grams of high-quality cocaine from the suspect, valued at approximately Rs 9 crore.

The interrogation of the foreigner led the police to uncover his associate and supplier, a 19-year-old Venezuelan national. Shockingly, the Venezuelan had smuggled the drugs into the country by concealing them in his stomach. Both individuals have now been arrested and are facing charges under the Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, according to authorities.

The Sakinaka police sub-inspectors, Rajendra Nagar and Pankaj Pardeshi, along with their teams, were on a night patrol when they observed a man behaving suspiciously. Upon instructing the man to stop, he attempted to flee out of fear. However, the police team swiftly apprehended him. The suspect has been identified as Daniel Naaymek, a 38-year-old Nigerian national.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 10, Datta Nalawade, stated, “During the search, we recovered 88 plastic capsules from the suspect’s possession. To our surprise, these capsules contained 880 grams of high-quality cocaine. The estimated value of the seized drugs is Rs 9 crore in the international market.”

Following Daniel’s interrogation, the police were led to a hotel in Sakinaka, where they arrested Joel Ramos, a 19-year-old Venezuelan national.

Further investigations have revealed that Ramos had recently arrived in India via Ethiopian Airlines from Addis Ababa. He had ingeniously concealed the cocaine capsules within his stomach. After successfully smuggling the drugs into India, Ramos handed them over to Daniel for distribution, Nalawade added.

Both foreigners are now facing charges under relevant sections of the NDPS Act for smuggling and selling commercial quantities of cocaine, as well as violating the Foreigners Act.

The police are currently examining the mobile contact details of the suspects and intensifying efforts to trace their other associates, stated an officer familiar with the case.
