The victims, identified as Shivani Rajawat, 26, who was pregnant at the time, and her mother, Jaidevi Chauhan, 50, lost their lives on the fateful day of November 18 last year. The Goa Police have pressed charges against Anurag, accusing him of executing his wife’s killing in a dowry death case.

Anurag now faces charges under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as for dowry harassment. Additionally, members of his family have also been named as accused in the dowry harassment case. The authorities took Anurag into custody following a report from the sub-divisional magistrate, who acted upon a complaint lodged by Shivani’s family. The complaint alleged that Anurag had subjected Shivani to dowry-related torment, prompting the Goa Police to investigate the tragic deaths.

According to the police, Shivani and her mother were present at their residence in the New Vaddem neighborhood of Vasco da Gama when the fatal explosion occurred. Investigators suspect that a gas cylinder caused the blast, which took place early in the morning. It is believed that a gas leak overnight led to the tragic incident, with the explosion being triggered when the women attempted to ignite the gas stove.

In the wake of the heart-wrenching incident, Shivani’s brother lodged a complaint with the district administration, accusing Anurag of demanding a dowry of Rs.20 lakh from their family and subjecting Shivani and their mother to continuous harassment. He further alleged foul play in the deaths of his sister and mother, holding Anurag responsible for their murder.
