Police Arrest Eight Suspects Involved in Gangster’s Murder in Pune

The Pune police have apprehended eight individuals suspected of being involved in the murder of gangster Sahil Mohol. The police investigation revealed that Sahil’s former associate, identified as Sahil, had been closely monitoring him for several days before orchestrating the attack. As an associate, Sahil managed to avoid suspicion and, along with his accomplices, launched a point-blank assault on Mohol.

The other accused persons have been identified as Namdev Mahipati Kangude, Amit alias Amar Maruti Kangude, Chandrakant Shahu Shelke, Vinayak Santosh Gavhankar, Vitthal Kisan Gandle, advocate Ravindra Vasatrao Pawar, and advocate Sanjay Rambhau Udan. All eight suspects were apprehended by the Crime Branch near Shirwal on the Pune-Satara highway. The police confiscated three country-made pistols, three magazines, five live cartridges, and eight cell phones from their possession.

According to the police, the investigation revealed that the accused murdered Sahil Mohol due to a previous financial dispute. Mohol’s aide, Arun Dhumal, lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the Kothrud police station.

The attack occurred on Mohol’s marriage anniversary. As he was about to leave his office in Sutardara to visit the Dagdusheth Halwai Ganesh Temple with his wife, the assailants launched their assault. CCTV footage of the incident captured the assailants pulling out pistols and shooting Mohol in the back. As he turned around, they fired multiple shots at his head and shoulders. The 39-year-old gangster collapsed immediately, and the assailants fled the scene after firing at least four rounds.

Mohol was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries shortly after. The police launched a massive search operation and deployed nine teams to track down the suspects. They were ultimately successful in apprehending the eight accused individuals, who were attempting to flee towards Satara via the Mumbai-Bangalore highway in their cars.

The police have registered a case against the assailants under Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, and relevant sections of the Arms Act.
