CHICAGO (CBS) – In a significant development, a 22-year-old man has been charged in connection to the murder of a 57-year-old man on Chicago’s Lower West Side in 2020.

Angel Avelar, a resident of Glendale Heights, was apprehended by the Chicago Police Department and the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force on Thursday at his residence on South Cedar Street. He now faces one felony count of first-degree murder.

According to the police, Avelar was identified as one of the individuals involved in the fatal shooting of the victim that took place in the early morning hours of December 28, 2020, in the 2300 block of South Wood Street.

Following his arrest, Avelar was taken into custody and charged accordingly. He is scheduled to appear at a detention hearing on Saturday.
