Police Chief in Louisiana Admits to Affair Leading to Love Triangle Shooting Incident

Opelousas police officer

A Louisiana police chief has made a shocking confession regarding his involvement in a law enforcement love triangle, which resulted in both him and his wife sustaining gunshot wounds. The incident, stemming from what the police chief described as “deeply personal” circumstances, involved infidelity. This revelation was made in a statement published on social media by Graig LeBlanc on Wednesday.

According to local news outlet KADN, the incident occurred on December 22 when Crystal LeBlanc, the police chief’s wife and a captain with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, went to the home of Opelousas Police Officer Savannah Butler to confront her husband, who was inside the residence.

As reported by KADN, Chief LeBlanc emerged from the house, and a heated argument ensued between the husband and wife. It was during this confrontation that Butler, armed with a firearm, appeared in the doorway.

In an attempt to disarm Butler, Chief LeBlanc reached out with his hand, but tragically, she discharged the gun. The bullet pierced the chief’s hand and struck his wife in the arm. Both victims were subsequently rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

Following an investigation into the incident, it was discovered that Butler had attempted to conceal evidence by cleaning up the scene before notifying the sheriff’s office. Consequently, she surrendered herself to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office on January 1.

Butler now faces charges of two counts of negligent injury, one count of obstruction of justice, and one count of illegal discharge of a firearm. She was released on a $22,000 bond.

It is worth noting that Chief LeBlanc assumed the role of police chief in Opelousas, Louisiana in January 2023. Shortly after his appointment, he hired Officer Savannah Butler, who had recently been terminated from the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, as reported by local news outlet KATC.

In his statement, Chief LeBlanc acknowledged the arduous task of rebuilding trust but expressed his commitment to restoring public confidence through transparency, accountability, and an unwavering dedication to serving the community with the utmost professionalism.
