An Iowa principal hailed as a hero after school shooting

An Iowa principal who displayed remarkable bravery during a tragic school shooting has been praised for putting himself in harm’s way to protect his students. Perry High School principal Dan Marburger was critically injured in the incident, but his selfless actions helped numerous pupils escape unharmed.

Authorities from the Iowa state department of public safety have lauded Mr Marburger’s actions, stating that he acted selflessly and put himself at risk to protect his students. He is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Des Moines.

Further details have emerged about the victims of the shooting. The 11-year-old student who tragically lost their life has been identified as Ahmir Jolliff, a sixth-grader who was shot three times. Another student, Corey, was shot multiple times and suffered a fractured femur and wrist. He was helped to safety by several people and is undergoing medical treatment.

Perry Superintendent Clark Wicks expressed deep sorrow for the entire school community and stated that the district will take time to remember and heal. The school grounds are still cordoned off with yellow crime tape, and memorials with flowers and stuffed toys have been set up to honor the victims.

His daughter, Claire Marburger, described him as a “gentle giant” and expressed her belief that he would put himself in harm’s way to protect others. She mentioned that her father underwent surgery and is currently in a stable condition.

According to Iowa division of criminal investigation spokesman Mitch Mortvedt, Mr Marburger performed significant acts to safeguard the lives of others during the shooting. However, specific details have not been disclosed.

One mother, Bobbi Bushbaum, shared on Facebook that her son Corey was shot multiple times and sustained injuries to his femur and wrist. Corey managed to make his way to a nearby field before being assisted to an ambulance. He has undergone surgery and is expected to face a long recovery period.

Authorities discovered that the shooter, Dylan Butler, possessed a pump-action shotgun and a small-caliber handgun. They also found a rudimentary improvised explosive device among his belongings, which had to be safely disarmed. Investigators are currently examining his social media profiles, including posts on TikTok and Reddit, and interviewing his friends in an effort to understand the motive behind the shooting.
