Knowing that Dilip was deceased, his distraught wife took her own life on New Year’s Day, January 1.

In a distressing turn of events, a grieving wife tragically died by suicide the day after her husband was believed to have succumbed to burn injuries in an AC compressor blast at a private medical college in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. However, it was later discovered that the man, Dilip Samantaray, who was one of four AC technicians injured in the blast, was still alive and had been mistakenly identified as the deceased individual at Hi-Tech Hospital.

Dilip Samantaray, a 34-year-old victim, is currently undergoing treatment for his burn injuries. While Samantaray and one of his injured co-workers were transferred to the ICU, the other two individuals tragically succumbed to their injuries.

Hi-Tech Hospital CEO Smita Padhi issued a clarification following the hospital’s error. Padhi stated that after the blast, a hospital staff member identified the injured individuals, and based on the information provided, the hospital maintained their records. “A person identified as Dilip Samantray (according to the records) died during the treatment on December 30, and as per protocol, we informed the police. His family members received the body after completing the necessary procedures,” Padhi was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

Confusion Surrounds Dilip’s Death, Wife Takes Her Own Life

Upon learning of Dilip’s supposed demise, his devastated wife hanged herself on New Year’s Day, January 1. However, the hospital later clarified that Dilip was alive and the deceased individual was his critically injured colleague, Jyotiranjan Mallick.

The body of the technician who died in the blast was mistakenly identified as Dilip Samantray, leading to it being handed over to his family.

Believing that they had received Dilip’s body, the family proceeded with the cremation.

Dilip, Jyotiranjan, Simanchaland, and Sritam were all servicing ACs at the hospital on December 29 when the explosion occurred. While Jyotiranjan was incorrectly identified as Dilip and passed away on December 30, Sritam succumbed to his injuries on January 3.

The mishandling of the bodies, which resulted in the suicide of Dilip’s wife, sparked protests outside the hospital.
