Fatal Accident in Dartmouth Leaves One Dead and Another Seriously Injured

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – A tragic crash occurred in Dartmouth, resulting in the death of one person and leaving another with life-threatening injuries. The incident took place on Friday, January 5th, around 10:35 p.m., at the intersection of Gulf Road and Smith Neck Road.

According to the Dartmouth Police Department, they received reports of a single-vehicle accident involving ejections. Responding officers found a heavily damaged 2022 Honda Accord and two individuals lying unresponsive on the roadway.

Both victims received immediate medical attention at the scene before being transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, as confirmed by the police.

Sadly, 18-year-old Jacob Pothier from New Bedford, identified as the male victim, was pronounced dead. The female victim, identified as 44-year-old Kathleen Martins from Dartmouth, sustained life-threatening injuries.

The Dartmouth Police Department, in conjunction with the State Police, is currently investigating the cause of the crash. Details regarding the circumstances leading to the accident have not been released at this time.
