“Burlington Man Charged in Multiple Robberies and Assaults, Including Theft and Assault of 72-Year-Old Victim”

Burlington, North Carolina – A Burlington man is facing a series of charges, including robbery and assault, after being accused of multiple crimes, according to the Burlington Police Department.

The incident occurred on Friday at approximately 4:45 p.m. when officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle theft and assault at an apartment complex on Crouse Lane.

Upon arrival, police discovered a 72-year-old man with a minor head injury. Investigators determined that the victim had allowed the suspect into their home, leading to an argument. The suspect allegedly struck the victim with a cane before fleeing the apartment and stealing the victim’s car.

In response to the incident, Burlington police issued a “be on the lookout” alert for the stolen vehicle and provided a description of the suspect.

Within two hours, state troopers located the stolen car on NC 501 in Person County.

The suspect, identified as McColline Thorpe Jr., a 57-year-old Burlington resident, was subsequently apprehended. He has been charged with felony robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the Friday assault.

Furthermore, Thorpe has been identified as the suspect in a separate robbery that occurred on Christmas Eve on Trollinger Avenue. He faces additional charges of felony robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony assault inflicting serious injury, and felony larceny of a motor vehicle related to the Christmas Eve incident.

Thorpe is presently in custody in Person County, with his bond set at $41,000.
