Lake Charles Police Make Arrest in Shooting Incident Involving Woman and Juvenile

A 35-year-old man from Lake Charles, Louisiana, has been taken into custody in connection with a fatal shooting incident that occurred on Friday. The incident resulted in the tragic death of a woman and the attempted murder of her child.
According to Deputy Chief Franklin Fondel of the Lake Charles Police Department, Terrence Jerome Withers has been charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder. His bond has been set at $1.25 million by Judge Tony Fazzio.
The incident took place at approximately 7:11 am on Friday in the 4500 block of Sale Lane. Upon receiving the initial report, officers were dispatched to the scene.
“While en route, officers received critical information from a juvenile victim who had managed to contact emergency dispatchers,” Fondel stated. “The juvenile victim conveyed that a male individual had attacked both the juvenile and the juvenile’s mother.”
Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers discovered that the door to the residence was open. They immediately initiated verbal calls for the suspect to surrender. Withers complied and was apprehended without resistance.
Once inside the residence, officers found a female victim who had sustained a gunshot wound. Acadian Ambulance was called to the scene, but unfortunately, the medical professionals pronounced the woman deceased.
The juvenile victim was promptly transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Fortunately, the child was released from the hospital on Saturday, showing signs of recovery.
Through the course of their investigation, law enforcement officials have identified the deceased woman as 35-year-old Danielle Nichole Walker, a resident of Lake Charles.
Deputy Chief Fondel revealed that a verbal altercation had transpired between Withers and Walker moments prior to the shooting incident.
