11-Year-Old Ahmir Jolliff Identified as Victim in Tragic Iowa School Shooting

In a heartbreaking turn of events, an 11-year-old sixth-grader named Ahmir Jolliff has been identified as the victim in a devastating school shooting that took place in Perry, Iowa. According to the latest update from the Iowa Department of Public Safety, Jolliff tragically lost his life during the Thursday morning incident at Perry Middle School and High School. This educational institution is located in the town of Perry, just 35 miles northwest of Des Moines.

This horrific event marks the fourth mass shooting to occur at Perry Middle School and High School this year, further highlighting the escalating issue of gun violence. Alongside Jolliff’s tragic death, seven other individuals, including a school administrator, sustained injuries during the incident.

The shooter responsible for this senseless act has been identified as 17-year-old Dylan Butler. Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation’s Assistant Director, Mitch Mortvedt, confirmed that Butler died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a Thursday afternoon update. Authorities discovered two firearms in Butler’s possession and were able to disable an improvised explosive device, averting further potential harm.

The injured victims were swiftly transported to a local hospital to receive urgent medical attention. Ahmir Jolliff, the 11-year-old victim, was tragically shot three times, as stated in the Friday update from the Iowa Department of Public Safety.

Among the injured, Perry High School Principal Dan Marburger has been identified as the brave school administrator who suffered multiple gunshot wounds and is currently in critical condition. Mortvedt commended Marburger’s selfless actions, stating that he placed himself in harm’s way to protect his students. As of Friday, Marburger, alongside two other students, remains hospitalized.
