Accident – Death – Obituary News : TOPEKA (KSNT) – A local man has been apprehended by the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office following a high-speed chase involving a stolen vehicle in the early hours of Friday morning.

The pursuit commenced at approximately 12:30 a.m. on January 5 when a deputy noticed a Ford F250 in the vicinity of Southeast Fifth Street and Southeast Gray Street. Upon running the license plate, it was discovered that the truck was registered to a Jeep Cherokee reported stolen through the Topeka Police Department.

The driver of the F250, refusing to comply with the deputy’s signal to stop, initiated the chase, as stated by the sheriff’s office. An intense pursuit ensued until the driver reached the area near Southeast Third Street and Southeast California Avenue. At this point, the suspect veered off-road, continuing the pursuit through unconventional terrain.

In a turn of events, the authorities later spotted the vehicle at Southeast Second Street and Southeast Alkire Street. The driver of the F250 attempted to flee the scene by traversing the Shunganunga Creek, but was promptly apprehended shortly after.

Upon further investigation following the conclusion of the pursuit, it was revealed that the F250 had been reported stolen from an address situated in the 100 block of SE California Avenue, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Fortunately, the stolen Jeep was successfully recovered by the police.

The apprehended driver of the F250, identified as a 29-year-old resident of Lecompton, received medical treatment at a local hospital before being booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections. The individual now faces multiple charges, including fleeing and eluding law enforcement, interference with law enforcement, possession of stolen property, reckless driving, driving while license suspended, tag not assigned, speeding, failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to stop for traffic control, failure to signal, and driving on the left side of the road.
