The triple-fatal accident took place around 9 p.m. on State Road 40, located west of State Road 11.

According to FHP, a 55-year-old woman from Orlando was driving her sedan in the eastbound lane, going against the flow of traffic in the westbound lane.

An FHP crash report revealed that the Orlando woman collided head-on with an SUV traveling west in the correct direction. The SUV had four occupants at the time of the crash.

Tragically, the Orlando woman was pronounced dead at the scene, along with the driver and a passenger in the SUV. The driver was identified as a 51-year-old woman from Charlotte, North Carolina, while the passenger was a 74-year-old woman from Brooklyn, New York.

FHP investigators believe that the Orlando woman was not wearing a seat belt during the crash, while all occupants of the SUV were properly restrained.

The Florida Highway Patrol is currently conducting an investigation into the incident to determine the factors that led to this devastating wrong-way collision.
